Fire Safety Advisor

Role Summary

The post holder shall carry out the duties as a Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Fire Safety Officer to provide expert professional guidance and support in relation to fire safety and risk management to Managers and Staff of the Trust and act as an appointed Competent Person for fire safety in the Trust in order that the Trust and supported organisations can fulfil their legal responsibilities in regard to meeting statutory and mandatory fire safety legislation. To manage, organise, implement, co-ordinate and maintain full and efficient fire prevention, fire precautions and training of staff in all premises managed by the Trust.

This is a diverse role that spans all activities of the trust and is responsible for advising on technical fire matters and for monitoring the state of fire precautions and fire safety in premises for which the Trust is responsible and for the provision of training in fire safety to all Trust Staff.

The post holder will act as the point of liaison between the Fire Authority and the Trust at an operational level.

This is a fantastic opportunity to develop and to continuously improve, the fire safety and risk management of a major acute Hospital. With capital development planned and underway, this is an exciting time to join the team and to provide expert professional guidance and support for these developments.   

You will be organising, implementing, co-ordinating and maintaining full and efficient fire prevention, and fire precautions across the Trust. Your duties will be advising on all technical fire matters, carrying out fire risk assessments and delivering theoretical and practical training at the acute and community settings.

You will join the Fire Safety team aligned with 8 Estate Officers and be part of the wider Estates team. 

You will have significant experience of fire safety guidance or building fire safety, ideally gained in a health-care/local authority/buildings consultancy or defence environment.  You will have a thorough understanding of building and fire safety. You will have a minimum of a Level 3 building/engineering/fire safety qualification and be trained in Healthcare specific fire safety.

The ability to communicate effectively at all levels and to be self-motivated with drive and resilience are crucial for this role.

Experienced fire service personnel without specific Building/Healthcare fire safety knowledge can be supported through apprenticeships and training to achieve the specialist knowledge up to Degree level fire safety engineer.

Working Pattern: 37.5 hours per week (part time options will be considered)
