Role Summary

The primary purpose of this role is to constantly drive the achievement and maintenance of operational performance targets including patient safety, quality, and the finances of each Cluster Service within the Division for the good of patient care. The role should work to identifying, escalating and communicating areas of concern and agreeing action plans with the cluster teams. The Postholder will line manage the Cluster Managers and deputise for the Divisional Director as required, working as a joint part of the Divisional senior triumvirate team.

The Surgical Services Division at the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is home to a wide range of surgical specialities and we are currently looking for an enthusiastic, experienced and highly motivated manager to join our team in the role of Divisional Business Manager (DBM).  This is a key senior post within Surgical Services and the successful candidate will provide strong leadership and operational management for all services and staff within the Surgical Services Division.  The DBM is responsible for the performance of these services in order to provide assurance to the Divisional Director on the achievement and maintenance of operational performance targets. 

The successful candidate will lead in ensuring the sustained delivery of key service targets and will be responsible for reconciling these with the delivery of high quality, safe patient care.  The DBM is responsible for reporting performance against targets throughout the organisational performance management framework and will support the Divisional Director in carrying out their role, taking day to day responsibility for the delivery of the Division’s business plan and key objectives.

The successful candidate will be an experienced NHS leader, able to demonstrate through the recruitment process evidence of experience and success in managing services and leading teams.  The ability to develop and maintain effective and credible relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and clinical teams will be essential.  A good knowledge of NHS access, performance and governance is also essential.

The post holder should have demonstrable evidence of planning and implementing change in order to improve healthcare services. You will be comfortable working hard, juggling fast paced agendas, coping with competing priorities and working to constantly meet demanding workloads.

The successful candidate will work alongside an existing Surgical Services DBM and take responsibility for a defined set of Clusters (Clinical Services).
