We are looking for a Registered Band 4 Dental Nurse to join our Maxillofacial/Oral Surgery and Orthodontic team at the NDDH. The successful candidate must have a recognised Dental Nurse qualification and be GDC registered.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Registered Dental Nurse to enhance their skills and gain experience within a hospital setting. You must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will need to be approachable, act as a role model and work effectively within a team.

Orthodontic department

The Orthodontic team at the NDDH consists of two Orthodontic Consultants, a Lab Technician and Dental Nurses who run these clinics twice a week at the NDDH. The Orthodontists work closely with Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons to look after patients with a variety of problems, including ectopic or impacted teeth, or severe jaw deformity. Many orthodontic problems are developmental, which means a high proportion of our patients are growing children. Patients undergo treatment with fixed and removal appliances.

Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery

The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery team at the NDDH comprises of 3 Consultants, one Associate Specialist and 4 staff grades and this is supported by the Surgical Outpatient department, with our own dedicated Dental Nursing staff. The clinics are held daily. We also work closely with the Emergency department seeing and treating these patients. The team see and treat patients who have the following conditions head and neck cancers, salivary gland diseases, facial disproportion, facial pain, temporomandibular joint disorders, impacted teeth, cysts and tumours of the jaws as well as numerous problems affecting the oral mucosa  such as mouth ulcers and infections and babies with tongue ties.

Working Pattern: 20.5 hours per week. 3 shifts per week, Monday to Friday.

Pay: The salary advertised for this position reflects the Agenda for Change 2024-5 rates, inclusive of a 5.5% pay award implemented from October 2024. If you join before this date, the pay award will be backdated to April 2024 or your start date, whichever is later. Until then, remuneration will be based on the 2023-4 pay bandings (Pay scales for 2023/24 | NHS Employers).
