Working as a senior member of the ICU nursing team in cooperation with other senior staff, matron and multidisciplinary team the practice educator role provides leadership and promotes the delivery of high standard evidence based care on the Intensive care unit. The role requires the practice educator to lead on the planning, implementation and evaluation of care to patients on the critical care unit while facilitating and planning the ongoing professional development of all members of staff, through national competence frameworks and supporting the learners undertaking recognised critical care qualifications delivered through established links with local HEIs

As a Band 7 practice Based Educator, you will join the ICU Nursing team delivering expert care to patients requiring interventional therapies to manage critical illness. Leading on the educational requirements of a highly skilled workforce. Setting educational standards, leading on SIM and clinical skillsYou’ll get to work closely with a multi-professional team, liaising with other services and departments within the Trust.
We’d love to hear from Registered Nurses with a broad and sound clinical knowledge and ideally experienced in caring for acutely ill patients.
Our ICU
Our adult ICU contains 13 beds and cares for around 1,000 patients per year, including emergency and elective work. We receive paediatric admissions, managing the care of children before they are transferred to the specialist ICU at Bristol Children’s Hospital.
The department is led by a very accessible and hands on management team, who ensure the highest standards for care are provided to our most critical of patients. They welcome innovative ways of working and place staff wellbeing as a high priority.
The department runs a wide range of inclusive activities including a book and walking club, as well as an active social calendar open to partners, families, and four legged friends!

The department is supported by a dedicated Practice Educator Team, and the wider clinical skills team. The department has specific training requirements and will support you to complete the online accredited adult ICU and the Care of a paediatric Patient in an adult ICU courses.
Each year colleagues can attend the SW ICU conference and the European Critical Care conference.
Working Hours: A healthy work-life balance is essential, and Devon is a great place to enjoy it. This is a full-time (37.5 hours per week) post but we have a flexible working policy that we are happy to discuss to establish suitable options for you and the department.
Working Pattern: 30 hours, shift pattern involves long days, early shifts and lates shifts and weekends
