About us

Royal Devon University Healthcare Foundation Trust includes North Devon District Hospital as its Northern Site and the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital as its Eastern Site.

North Devon District Hospital provides a Trauma and Orthopaedic service to a population of approximately 175,000. We are an extremely agile department that has used our strengths to develop an enhanced recovery programme delivering the lowest length of stay figures for elective lower limb arthroplasty nationally. Our Fully ring-fenced Elective Recovery Funded ward has enabled us to maintain our elective productivity despite unprecedented pressures on acute services within the hospital.

North Devon District Hospital is one of 40 hospitals included in the Government’s New Hospital Programme (NHP) and was confirmed as a priority for investment in 2020. The ‘Our Future Hospital’ team is currently engaged in drawing up redevelopment plans for a new elective surgical unit that will enable to develop our elective orthopaedic services even further.
