Role Summary

Applications are invited for this position of Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery to join and expand the existing team of three consultants.

We are keen to ensure that the post works for you and would be interested in hearing from people that may want to do a job share, work part-time or flexibly or on a full-time basis.

The post would suit a committed and compassionate individual with completion of training in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery to Consultant level. The successful candidate will be expected to have a subspecialty interest in either Head & Neck Oncology or Facial Deformity, and also have a passion to develop the Surgical Dermatology aspect of the service.

Applicants are required to be on the OMFS GMC Specialist Register, or within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / EU equivalent certification at the time of interview in February 2024.

Dual qualification and seniority will be taken into consideration for salary purposes.

Applicants are required to be on the OMFS GMC Specialist Register, or within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / EU equivalent certification at the time of interview.

The post is based on the Wonford site of the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, where inpatient and outpatient accommodation is situated. The Combined Maxillofacial Unit for North and East Devon is presently covered by the three consultants who are primarily based in Exeter, serving a population of approximately 500,000. There is on call commitment on a 1:4 weekday & 1:7 weekend rota. The weekend consultant on call cover is shared between the RD&E Hospital and Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton  but based at the RD&E.

Exeter is a lively City enjoying one of the highest standards of living in the country.  It is situated at the head of the Exe Valley and is less than 30 minutes from Dartmoor.  There are excellent cultural and leisure facilities available both within the City and within the County of Devon.
