Role Summary

This is a substantive appointment for a Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine and Anaesthetics. This post is being offered within the Royal Devon University Hospital NHS Trust, which includes Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital and the North Devon District Hospital. Working together gives us the opportunity to offer unique and varied careers across our services combining the RD&E’s track record of excellence in research, teaching and links to the University with NDHT’s innovation and adaptability. The base hospital, on call requirement and residency requirement for this post is for the Eastern Service, based at RDE (Wonford, Exeter). There are currently no cross-cover arrangements for Intensive Care services between the hospitals.

The appointee will be a member of the Critical Care Department. The Anaesthetic Department, Theatres and Intensive Care in combination make up the Critical Care Group, one of the four Groups that form the framework for the Surgery care group services. Intensive Care Unit is a 15 bedded unit comprised of both ICU and HDU beds which has over 1000 admissions per annum. Most speciality areas are covered by the department, apart from neurosurgery, thoracic and cardiac surgery. On-call consultant cover for the ICU is provided by the 12 current consultants and all consultant are allocated daytime ICU sessions. The post will provide approximately 3 PAs within anaesthetics with the remainder in ICU.
