Role Summary
The Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Consultant Physician, Healthcare for Older People (HfOP) with a specialist interest in Perioperative Medicine. This is an exciting new post held jointly by the departments of Healthcare for Older People (HfOP) and Acute Surgery. The successful applicant would be an integral member of both the Geriatric medicine and Perioperative teams, with a job plan split equally between the two.

Building on the success of our Perioperative service within acute surgery, we wish to expand and widen our ability to provide high quality medical care for acute surgical inpatients (including higher risk and frail older adults). The work of this team is challenging and exciting, requiring the breadth of geriatric and general medical skills to provide both proactive and reactive medical management to general, vascular, plastics and urology in-patients. In addition, we wish to further develop a trust wide “Silver trauma” service working closely with our existing ortho-geriatric services.
Our combined Healthcare for Older People department is a large, friendly, successful and ambitious department. We are proud of our multi-specialty clinical work, teaching and strong academic representation at National and Regional levels,

Working Pattern: It is a full-time NHS post with on-call requirements and a four-day working week to allow compensatory rest for on call work. The appointee would join the Geriatricians’ out-of-hours rota and contribute to the General Medical consultant on-call rota. Applicants wishing to work less than full time are also welcome to apply.
