The role is focussed on Acute Medicine and Hospital at Home models of care (Virtual wards and acute hospital outreach). We are, as a department, motivated to increase our offering in Research, Quality Improvement, Digital Health and Ultrasound. These activities would be supported in job plans.

We are looking for a new consultant colleague to join our team in Acute Medicine at the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (RDUH). You will be joining a team of 14 forward thinking doctors in a dynamic trust, able to effect changes in our service.
As a consultant group we mostly have young families and so promote part time working and diverse portfolios to make our jobs balanced and sustainable.
The role is focussed on Acute Medicine and Hospital at Home models of care (Virtual wards and acute hospital outreach). We are, as a department, motivated to increase our offering in Research, Quality Improvement, Digital Health and Ultrasound. These activities would be supported in job plans.

The Acute Hospital at Home service has been running for 3 years and we are keen to develop this to increase capacity, range of conditions and perform hospital outreach. This would be particularly attractive for anyone with virtual ward experience, passionate about ambulatory care and alternatives to admission or with a background in acute frailty.
Exeter AMU is constantly improving and has seen significant investment over the last few years. It is a medium sized Acute Medical Unit (AMU) of 50 beds plus 2 trolley spaces, 44 of which are monitored. Our newly developed SDEC includes 6 rooms and 4 ambulatory cardiac bays for advanced interventions along with a dedicated triage area of 3 trolleys for all referrals. We also have a separate ambulatory clinic area for elective procedures and returns.
We are currently developing our AMU further with dedicated x-ray being installed in the department. We are currently reviewing options around the expansion of bed base to 70 beds and an Enhanced Care Area. We offer point of care ultrasound with rapid access to diagnostics and procedures and have developed innovative ways of remote home monitoring having been awarded several Digital Health grants. There are 6 dedicated registrars and a developing ACP/ PA workforce of 7. As you can see we are not a department or trust that likes to stay still.
