About the Role
Working as part of a friendly and multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in coordinating research activity, supporting patients participating in studies, and ensuring the successful delivery of research projects in line with Good Clinical Practice, Trust policies and research governance requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Coordinating hip research studies, clinical trials and participant follow-up.
- Identifying, screening and recruiting eligible patients into research studies.
- Collecting, recording and maintaining accurate clinical and research data.
- Supporting the collection of patient-reported outcome measures before and after surgery.
- Arranging study visits, investigations and follow-up appointments.
- Acting as a key point of contact for patients, clinicians, researchers and sponsors.
- Preparing reports and supporting data requests for clinicians and researchers.
- Supporting monitoring visits, audits, publications and presentations through accurate data management.
- Ensuring compliance with research governance, confidentiality, NHS standards and Good Clinical Practice.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Research Coordinator to join the renowned Hip Research Unit within the Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre at the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. This part-time role will support a portfolio of nationally recognised hip research studies and long-term patient follow-up programmes, helping to shape the future of orthopaedic care.
About the Hip Research Unit
The Hip Research Unit has been at the forefront of hip replacement research for decades. Although Professor Ling began collecting hip replacement data in 1970, the Unit was formally established in 1988 and now maintains one of the most extensive hip replacement databases in the world, with more than 17,000 patients and over 250,000 research records.
The team works closely with surgeons, clinical staff, academics and industry partners to deliver high-quality research that improves outcomes for patients undergoing hip surgery and treatment.
About You
We are looking for someone who is organised, proactive and confident working with patients, clinicians and multidisciplinary teams. You will have excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining high standards of data quality.
The successful candidate will ideally have experience within healthcare, research, clinical administration, project coordination or data management. Previous experience of clinical trial administration is essential and experience as a clinical trials manager is highly desirable.
