Role Summary
This is an exciting opportunity (maternity leave cover) to join the Occupational Therapy service at the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (Eastern Services) as the Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist working across Trauma and Orthopaedics.
- The post holder will be responsible for the clinical leadership and management of the Occupational Therapy team covering the Trauma and Orthopaedic wards (Durbin, Dyball and Robin Ling).
- The post holder will carry a clinical caseload of complex patients within the designated inpatient areas. They will provide advanced assessment and treatment of patients on a day-to-day basis communicating complex conditions and related information to patients and relatives.
- The post-holder will be responsible for the management and supervision of the Occupational Therapy team, covering areas of performance, clinical outcomes and service delivery.
- The post holder will lead the training and development of less experienced staff, undergraduates and other professionals and be responsible for the development and delivery of on call and weekend competencies for the Occupational Therapy staff.

The post holder is responsible for the joint clinical leadership and management of the in-patient Trauma and Orthopaedic Therapy services, with a focus on the Occupational Therapists across the Trauma and Orthopaedic wards with a mixed clinical caseload based on the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, Wonford site. The post holder will also provide advice to other teams in the Trust about patients with stroke in other inpatient ward areas.
The post holder will provide highly specialist assessment and interventions for a complex caseload demonstrating advanced clinical reasoning skills including cognitive assessment, functional activities, seating and postural management. The caseload will comprise of acute cases across the specialities of Trauma and Orthopaedics. The post holder will take a lead in multi-disciplinary activities. They will have highly developed specialist knowledge and communicate complex condition related information to patients, relative and carers working to ensure the service perform according to the national standards. This role will include supporting complex discharges and assisting in facilitating timely discharges.
The post holder will work closely with the team leaders to support team organisation and prioritisation processes. They will deputise for the Therapy Manager alongside other clinical leads; provide advice in relation to Occupational Therapy matters; and facilitate the resolution of workload/staffing issues. They will provide information to the Division on key issues of safety, effectiveness, and the patient and staff experience; and will be responsible for the collation and evaluation of relevant performance data.
The post holder will advise on workforce numbers and skill requirements to meet service needs and will lead the training and development of less experienced staff, undergraduates and other professionals as required. This includes ensuring that all staff have appropriate knowledge and skills through a process of supervision, objective setting and training. The post holder will participate in Divisional and Speciality based service development activities.
Working Pattern: 22.5 hours per week, typical hours are 08:15 - 16:30. The post holder will be willing to work flexibly across seven days as required including bank holidays and weekends.

This is a fixed term contract for 12 months. For current NHS employees this post could be a secondment opportunity.
