Care Group Associate Director of Patient Care (Surgery)

Role Summary

A vital leadership position has opened up as the Associate Director of Patient Care within our NHS organisation to provide senior clinical professional leadership to both Nursing & Allied Health Professionals services for the Surgical Care Group.

This position offers the opportunity to act independently, taking timely and key decisions to ensure effective clinical delivery of services in the Care Group, leading clinical governance, change and improvement by supporting and influencing clinical, operational and corporate teams.

As a senior leader within the Care Group, you will be based in Exeter and will assume a Trust-wide portfolio, providing Leadership and direction across our two acute sites in Devon (Exeter or Barnstaple) with the expectation to travel to the alternate site at least once a week.

  • Act as the professional advocate and adviser in relation to all clinical (non-medical) managerial and operational issues that arise within the Care Group to ensure that a satisfactory solution or mitigation is achieved.
  • Accountable lead for governance, quality and patient safety within the Care Group, ensuring systems are in place for learning from incidents, complaints and patient experience feedback;
  • Responsible for signing off complaint responses, incident reviews and action plans for the Care Group, ensuring consistency in response, that relevant learning is taken from all events and action plans are delivered within agreed timescales;
  • Ensure clinical risk is minimised by ensuring clinical practice and guidelines adhere to best practice as per regulatory bodies
  • Support and contribute to the development of clinical workforce plans, providing innovative approaches to workforce delivery;

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Able to demonstrate extensive and highly specialist knowledge across a range of disciplines underpinned by theoretical knowledge and significant management and leadership experience.
  • Possesses effective communication skills both verbally and written and is able to address large groups of staff, patients and relatives including in situations of conflict and distress
  • Exhibits the ability to work strategically and develop a long-term vision for patient experience and convert this is into practical plans, objectives and deliverables
  • Has an ability to gain credibility with and influence fellow clinicians, managers and speciality leads- including influencing clinical changes where appropriate

This role provides a crucial role alongside the Director of Patient Care in shaping clinical services within the Trust and contributing to the quality and safety of our services alongside the wellbeing of our staff through leadership. Working Pattern: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The post holder will also participate in the designated on-call rota.
