Role Summary

The overall job purpose of the Mental Health Care Assistant is to contribute to the delivery of patient’s individual care programmes under the directions and supervision of a Registered Nurse.  The post holder will be expected to be self-motivated and use their initiative when necessary.

The postholder will work on a one to one basis with the patient, and will be required to work both day and  night duties to provide support and care.  The post holder will practice in accordance with Trust standards and statutory requirements and to operate within the boundaries of the role and assessed competencies.

Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is looking for experienced Mental Health Care Assistants to work within the acute setting to care for patients on a one to one basis.  Shifts may be required at short notice, therefore, you would be required to be flexible and able to work with little notice in a variety of acute ward areas.

As a Mental Health Care Assistant, you will work with the nursing teams and undertake a range of activities under the supervision of a registered nurse.

You will need to have significant experience in care and proven experience working as a Mental Health Care Worker. 

You will be able to demonstrate literacy and numeracy skills and the ability to deliver high standards of patient care. You will need to be able to work flexibly, using your own initiative and be able to function as part of a team.

6 months recent experience working in a mental health care setting is essential.
