The Neuro rehab service is made up of a pathway of teams and services working across in-patient (Staples acute and rehab Stroke and Neuro ward), community (Integrated community stroke service) and outpatient settings to provide specialist, evidence-based Neuro rehab to patients following stroke or other neurological diagnosis.
The current vacancy is based on the Inpatient Acute and Rehab Stroke and Neurorehab Unit. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work as part of a large dynamic MDT alongside an AHP consultant and other advanced practitioners to facilitate service delivery and development. The service works closely with the regional Integrated Stroke Delivery Network (ISDN).
This is an ideal opportunity for someone who wishes to develop their clinical leadership skills and broaden their experience in stroke. The successful candidate will not only work autonomously undertaking specialist advanced assessments and treatment of patients with diverse and complex acute Stroke and neurological presentations, but also support a group of registered and unregistered staff and provide clinical leadership to that team, ensuring the provision of a high standard therapy service as well as developing and expanding clinical practice in stroke. There is a commitment to MDT service delivery and improvement. The post holder will have the opportunity for active participation in service evaluation and quality improvement projects. To support this the post- holder will have a strong knowledge of current evidence in Stroke and its application to clinical practice using advanced clinical reasoning skills.
The Neurorehab Team is committed to quality improvement for Stroke Rehabilitation. We review our services in line with the latest evidence-based guidelines, monitoring KPI’s and reporting accurately to SSNAP in order to allow accurate bench marking of services both regionally and nationally. A large piece of work has been recently undertaken to update our online patient record system to reflect the requirements of the 2024 SSNAP dataset changes and the post holder will be involved in the ongoing review and adjustment of this.
The Neurorehab service has a proven track record in development of our staff and opportunities for individual CPD and personal development as well as promoting opportunities for career development at all levels. We have number of senior staff trained to MSc level. The Therapy team is at the forefront of innovation and development, in both our services and our people. Innovation is central to therapies at the Royal Devon, demonstrated by the implementation of several new initiatives and the development of non-traditional roles in recent years including a Research and Innovation Lead. We are not afraid of adopting new techniques, as shown by the introduction of our ultrasound-guided injection therapy in Orthopaedic and Neurology pathways.

About North Devon
North Devon offers a scenic and beautiful place to live. The hospital is close to a dramatic coastline and surrounded by green pastures, rugged moors and pockets of woodland. Many of the staff in our department value the opportunity to leave work and be 20 minutes away from a surf or long walk on the beach.
Working Pattern: 3 days a week with weekend working requirements (1 weekend day in 6 weeks). 8-4 plus weekend working and on call requirements.
