Admin Patient Flow Coordinator Emergency Department (Out of Hours)

Role Summary

Your role as a Patient Flow Coordinator would involve working as a member of the team in the Emergency Department collaborating with key teams/departments/wards to ensure the smooth flow of patients through the Majors/Minors area.

To work specifically within Majors/Minors and to operate and maintain, with minimum supervision, a range of clerical and administrative duties, providing a first point of contact for Trust staff and visitors reporting to Minors/Majors.

To track patient progress thought the Majors/Minor Department and maintain records.

Please note that the workstation for this position is in a front line clinical area and therefore the post holder will be exposed to patients who are presenting to ED in an aggressive, distressed or severely ill/injured state.

This is an exciting opportunity to support the out of hours Admin team in the Emergency Department, using a the newly installed innovation computer system EPIC (ASAP Module).

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to join the Emergency Department administration team as a Patient Flow Coordinator. This vital role works alongside our Medical, Nursing and Site Management teams to co-ordinate the activity within the Emergency department.

You must have outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with a pleasant telephone manner. It is essential that you have the ability to deal with confidentiality issues and be able to provide excellent customer care service. It is vital that patient’s details are accurately recorded, and the relevant documentation is created to support safe patient care.

Dealing with approximately 105,000 attendances per year, the Emergency Department is an exciting and stimulating place to work and benefits from excellent team working. This role would suit someone who has exceptional interpersonal skills, is proactive and looking for a challenge.

The successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to remain calm under pressure and have experience of dealing with the general public, and with difficult/distressed people. A flexible approach to work and an understanding of working in a busy environment with minimal supervision are also essential.

Working Pattern: 

3-week rolling rota pattern:

Week 1 – Tues 17:00-22:00 / Thurs 17:00-22:00 / Sat 08:00-15:00 / Sun 08:00-15:00

Week 2 – Fri 17:00-22:00 / Sat 15:00-22:00 / Sun 15:00-22:00

Week 3 – Mon 17:00-22:00 / Wed 17:00-22:00

Interview Date: Monday 30th September 2024.

Pay: The salary advertised for this position reflects the Agenda for Change 2024-5 rates, inclusive of a 5.5% pay award implemented from October 2024. If you join before this date, the pay award will be backdated to April 2024 or your start date, whichever is later. Until then, remuneration will be based on the 2023-4 pay bandings (Pay scales for 2023/24 | NHS Employers).
