Role Summary
The Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) will use specialist knowledge and skills to independently provide healthcare to patients who have a complex and undetermined presentation, and acutely unwell patients. The ANP will work autonomously, assessing the clinical situation, determining a working diagnosis, commencing initial treatment and appropriate supportive management. Non-medical prescribing is fundamental in supporting this role.
The ANP will work alongside the medical team maintaining good communication and collaboration between the various multidisciplinary teams. Evidence-based care will be inherent in their practice, ensuring that best practice is disseminated throughout the clinical areas.
The ANP will assist the oncology medical team with training and development of junior staff.
The ANP will undertake the role in accordance with Trust and department guidelines. This includes acting as an expert resource for the day case and ward teams to support them in the delivery of effective care.
The ANP will act as a teacher and mentor for all bands of nurses, and work with other staff and agencies to promote the ANP service.
As a leader s/he will be responsible for ensuring a good working environment in which all patients and carers receive a high standard of care. It will mean that s/he leads by example and empowers staff in their personal and professional development to undertake a greater range of clinical skills to modernise and improve patient care, including updates of essential training.
The ANP will be expected to work closely with the Lead Acute Oncology Nurse in playing a proactive role in quality and service improvement and will assist in the monitoring and auditing of clinical standards of care within the defined area.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated and compassionate nurse, with a strong work ethic, to join our Acute Oncology Team.
The main purpose of the role will be to provide expert nursing leadership to support nursing and medical colleagues to facilitate a professional seamless service across the Acute Trust for oncology patients presenting acutely with problems related to their cancer or treatment.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced nurse, already working at Band 6 or 7 role, with extensive knowledge/experience in oncology/haematology nursing. Due to the complex nature of cancer and its treatment, we are looking for someone with previous oncology experience and ideally someone who is SACT competent.
We are looking for an individual to bring a passion for developing services and the ability to show empathic and compassionate care. This unique opportunity requires you to be committed, organised and be a confident communicator with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Main duties of the job
You will ensure that patients are managed in a rapid process to ensure there are no delays to diagnosis and treatment, ensuring physical and psychological symptoms are managed and that professionals are guided on symptom management. You will also act as a keyworker for this patient cohort on initial admission and refer them to the site-specific CNS to continue on their treatment pathway.
You will also be CNS for MUP/CUP patients and MSCC co-ordinator.
Excellent communication skills in relaying very sensitive, complex condition related information to patients, relatives and staff are essential.
A key aspect of this role will be supporting patients through the uncertainty of a cancer diagnosis and be present for 'breaking bad news' helping clinicians to deliver this sensitively.
You will be pivotal in supporting the development of the Acute Oncology Service working alongside the Lead Nurse for Acute Oncology and Trust Lead Cancer Nurse.
This is a full-time post Mon-Fri however in the future, we aim to provide a 7-day service.
