The Transformation Team at Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has a strong track record of supporting acute, community and corporate teams to redesign services and improve quality, productivity and sustainability. This role will work solely with the QI team to provide focused technical support for a 3-month period.
As the Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Specialist, you will provide hands-on technical expertise in AI, data science and automation. This may include data preparation, analysis, model development, dashboard creation, scripting, workflow optimisation and the development of safe, practical proof-of-concept solutions. The postholder will use tools such as Python, R, SQL and business intelligence platforms, and will work closely with colleagues to ensure outputs are clear, robust, well-documented and aligned with Trust governance requirements.
In this role, you will:
- Support the QI team to identify opportunities where AI, data science or automation could improve processes, reduce manual workload or generate insight.
- Develop practical analytical outputs, dashboards, visualisations or prototypes to support improvement work.
- Apply technical skills in data preparation, analysis, modelling and evaluation.
- Translate complex technical information into clear, accessible outputs for clinical, operational and improvement colleagues.

Experience of working with clinicians, operational teams and senior stakeholders would be beneficial.
This is a short-term, high-impact role where you will be able to bring technical expertise directly into improvement work and help the QI team explore how AI and data science can support practical change.
